HUTCHINS CONSORT, Octet of the New Violin Family
 |
The HUTCHINS CONSORT performs on eight perfectly scaled violins - from a tiny treble (an octave higher than a standard violin) to a gigantic contrabass (8 feet tall, tuned an octave below a cello). These were all designed and built by the famed luthier Dr. Carleen Hutchins. These instruments are the first successful attempt to create an acoustically balanced set of instruments that convey a homogeneous violin sound across the entire range of written music. Whether the Consort is playing the classics with consummate artistry, or presenting pieces on the cutting edge of new, their music is brilliantly alive, palpable, and powerful. Visit www.hutchinsconsort.org. (Student program same date & place, 10:00 - 10:50 am, free.)
